AMTRAK DERAILMENT NEAR SECAUCUS INJURES 35

New York,Nov.23- An Amtrak fast-mail train carrying 108 passensers and crew members from Washington D.C headed for Boston derailed as it was nearing New York at 6:33 A.M. on Saturday , Nov 22. The train was speeding across the Hackensack River Bridge when it left the track, almost hit a train headed in the opposite direction, and then fell 30 feet down an emnbankment into a marsh. Amtrak announced that no one was killed. But 35 persons were injured, incliding two were injured seriously. Dozens of the other passengers were badly shaken up in the crash. The two train locomatives were hurled nose down into the muddy marsh of an empty New Jersey meadow.

The Hackensack River Bridge is a swing bridge. It is the type that opens to allow tall boats to pass through. Senetor Frank Lautenberg, a member of the Transportation Appropriations sub-committe in the Senate, Went to theaccident scene and talked to railroad officials. He was informed that a boat had passd through the bridge just two hours earlier. It was speculated that the bridge may not have closed completely after the boat went through, and a gap in the track may have caused the crash.

Televison is the most popular form of entertainment in any household. People of all ages use this medium to entertain themselves for an average of four hours a day. Thus television has had a tremendous influence on its viewers, especially children. Scientists now say that children can be adversely affected by constant watching television. This is due to the fact that children participates less in physical activities, spend less time reading and studying, and see a world of violence that can effect their own feelings of security.

REFERENCE

A consumer walks into a store. He stands in front of hundred of boxes of laundry detergent. He chooses one brand, pay for it, and leaves. Why does pick that specific kind of soap? Is it truly better than the others? Probably not. These days, many products are nearly identical to one another in quality and price. If products are almost the same, what make consumers buy one brand instead the other? Although we might not like to admit it, commercial on television and advertisements in magazines probably influences us much more than we think they do.
